šŸ“œ Step 1: Choose Your Madhhab

As a new student of knowledge, the first thing you need to do is study the four imams and their basic methodologies, asking yourself the question: who is most worthy of following? You can start by watching this playlist which we made to explain why schools of thought exist to begin with. If you need time to choose a madhab, then you can simply study the madhab of your locality or family and then make a decision later. Lastly, this decision is a matter of opinion. Hence, there is no wrong answer, and there is no harm in changing your decision later.

🧠 Step 2: Begin with ā€˜Aqida

After selecting a madhab, the most important knowledge to have is ā€˜aqida. For that, new students should begin by taking whatever is currently live and then catching up with the recordings on your own time. You’ll notice there are three ā€˜aqida options: Hanbali, Ash’ari, and Maturidi. Usually, Hanafis take Maturidi while Malikis and Shafi’is take the Ash’ari school’s theology. The Hanbali of course is Hanbali. However, there is not a set rule, and whichever you take, you will be learning pure and blessed knowledge.

šŸ“˜ Step 3: Learn Fard ā€˜Ayn (Fiqh)

Next, one must learn their fard ā€˜ayn, namely a primer in fiqh. Again, you should take what is currently live for the school of thought you have chosen, and catch up on the recordings on your own. I do not recommend taking more than one madhab in fiqh, unless you are doing this to help you make a decision. Once you have decided, then dive into that madhab and focus on it.

šŸ—£ļø Step 4: Study Tajwid

After learning your fard ā€˜ayn, a solid student of knowledge is grounded in the fundamentals of tajwid. Hence, the students should take at least three months of tajwid classes with Shaykh Nuh.

šŸŽ“ Step 5: Tafsir, Sira and Tasawwuf?

What about the other subjects like tafsir, sira, and tasawwuf? These are, without doubt, important courses, but the core remains ā€˜aqida and fiqh. You can consider these classes like electives.
