Everything you need for your first two weeks

Your courses are already waiting in your library. This page answers what new students ask most: which course to open first, which book to get, and how the live classes actually run.

It takes about three minutes to read, and it stays in the menu for whenever you need it again.

Where to Start

Begin with Aqida, then Fiqh

Your library holds more than anyone can study at once, so we recommend a specific order: Aqida first, then Fiqh. Creed before practice, the way these sciences have always been taught.

You need no prior study to begin either one, and no Arabic. Everything is taught in English from the ground up.

01Aqida first — what we believe about God, prophethood and the unseen

02Then Fiqh — how that belief is practised: purification, prayer, fasting, zakat

03Inside each course the books are numbered. Begin at the first and follow its recordings in order.

04Come to the live class whenever you like — you do not need to have caught up first

05Get the book for each course before your second session

Studying Arabic

Take the placement test before choosing a level. A score of 70 or above places you past the beginner level. Prerequisites are advisory — you may attend any session and watch any recording — but the test saves you sitting in the wrong room for a term.

Live Classes

You can walk into any class, at any point in the term

Every class is taught live at a fixed time each week, and every class is recorded. Open the course at class time and the join link is there — the course you are enrolled in is the only place you need to look.

Most students join partway through a term, and that is normal. Watch the recordings at your own pace and sit in on the live class alongside them; you are not expected to be at the same point as everyone else, and nobody will ask you to speak.

Classes are taught in English, meet once a week, and run one to two hours

Times on the schedule are Eastern Time — check the difference where you live

The join link sits inside the course itself, not in an email

The recording appears in that same course afterwards

You are welcome in any session, whether or not you have caught up

Books

Most courses are read from one set text

Essentials courses follow a specific book, studied line by line across the term. The Arabic track works through the At-Takallum series, one book per level.

We send you the book online. If you would rather study from a physical copy, they are available from most Islamic booksellers.

Arabic 101 to 105 — At-Takallum Starter and Book A2

Arabic 200 levels — Book B1 · Arabic 220 levels — Book B2

Questions about the material are best asked in the live session itself, or in the students group where your teacher and the other students can see them. The group link is on your library page.
