The Sanusi Tradition

An online program in the rational sciences of Sunni Islam: creed, logic, usul and tasawwuf, studied through the North African tradition of Imam al-Sanusi. Level One is taught in English. The later levels move into Arabic. You finish able to give an account of what you believe, and show why it holds.
Why This, Why Now
The rational sciences are the disciplined form of belief.
Muslims today are not short of content. We are surrounded by claims: scientific, historical, political, therapeutic, religious. Each arrives with a different amount of care behind it, and almost nothing teaches you which is which.
That is what this tradition trains. It is the path al-Ghazali and al-Taftazani walked, still taught in the Maghrib as Imam al-Sanusi left it. You learn how they reached their conclusions.
Level One · The Curriculum
Diploma in ʿAqliyyat
Seven courses, taught in English. Creed, logic, usul, and the inward discipline that keeps the study honest. This is the vocabulary you need before the Arabic texts will open for you.
Classes run Saturdays at 12pm EST and Sundays at 10am EST, each two hours long. Remaining class times will be announced, and every session is recorded.

You do not need Arabic to begin. You need the patience to read slowly and the willingness to hold your own thinking to a standard.
The Faculty
Taught by scholars of the tradition.
Your teachers read these texts with their own teachers, and they teach them the way they were taught. One shared vocabulary runs through every course, so each one builds on the last.

Three levels, mapped out in full so you can see where this goes. Only Level One is open now. Everyone enters through the Diploma, and Arabic comes in at Level Two.
